How to Order a Custom Copper Mould Tube: 10 Specifications You Need to Provide

Most delays in a copper mould tube order happen before the order: the inquiry says "130 × 130 R6, please quote" and a week of questions follows. Send these ten items and the quotation comes back the next day with a drawing for approval.

1. Section

The billet size at the exit, in mm or inches. Examples: 100 × 100 mm, 130 × 130 mm, 150 × 150 mm, 160 × 220 mm, Ø150 mm. State the corner radius if you know it.

2. Radius

The casting machine radius: R4 (4000 mm), R5 (5000 mm), R6 (6000 mm), R9 (9000 mm) or another value. It is on the old tube marking and the caster nameplate. There is no default.

3. Length

Overall tube length, for example 780, 800, 812, 900 or 1000 mm. Measure the old tube if unsure.

4. Wall thickness

8, 10, 12 mm or per drawing. If you do not know, tell us the casting speed and whether you re-machine tubes; we propose.

5. Copper grade

TP2 / Cu-DHP, CuAg0.1 or CuCrZr. Or "please advise" with the casting speed and steel grades; see the materials page.

A drawing answers items 1–8 in one file. Send it as PDF, DWG or STEP.

6. Taper

Single, double, multi or parabolic, with the values, or the OEM drawing, or the OEM name and model. "Standard taper" is not a specification.

7. Chrome / Ni-Cr plating

Hard chrome (our standard 0.08–0.12 mm) or nickel-chrome, and the thickness if your drawing specifies one.

8. Cooling design

Plain outer surface (annular-gap jacket) or machined water slots (number, size, position per jacket drawing). A photo of the outside of the old tube settles this. If you are replacing the jacket too, say so; see water jackets and assemblies.

9. Quantity

Pieces for this order and, if you can, annual consumption; it affects price and whether we hold stock for you.

10. Drawing

PDF, DWG, DXF or STEP of the tube; or the OEM mould drawing; or photos of the old tube with a tape measure in the shot and the marking legible. We manufacture to the drawing and inspect against it.

A complete inquiry, as an example

Please quote 20 pcs copper mould tube 130 × 130 × 900 mm, R6000, wall 12 mm, CuAg0.1, double taper per attached OEM drawing, hard chrome 0.10 mm, plain outer surface for annular gap jacket. Casting speed 2.8 m/min, low-carbon and peritectic grades. Delivery CIF Mersin. Annual requirement approx. 80 pcs.

That inquiry is quoted the same day. Add your company name, country and WhatsApp number and it goes straight to an engineer.

When you have nothing but the old tube

Photograph both ends, the marking, the outside surface and the bore; measure the exit section on two diagonals, the length and the wall at four points; tell us the caster OEM and casting speed. We reverse-engineer the rest and send a drawing for your approval before production. This is how most first orders from new customers start.

Frequently asked questions

Which file formats do you accept?

PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP, and clear photos. Paper drawings can be photographed page by page.

Do I need to send a sample tube?

Not usually. Photos and measurements are enough; for unusual tapers a used tube helps.

How long is a quotation valid?

30 days; copper price movements are passed on at order, not at quotation.

Have a drawing? Send PDF, DWG, STEP or a photo of the old tube with dimensions. We confirm taper, wall thickness and plating before quoting.Send drawing
